Shocking Heist: Thief Steals $400K Safe from NYC Luxury Apartment!
A burglar broke into a luxury apartment in a high-rise building on the Upper West Side, making off with a safe containing nearly $400,000 in cash and jewelry.
The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Thanksgiving at 75 West End Ave., according to the police.
The thief smashed through the door and broke the door jamb to access the apartment. Inside, the burglar found a safe containing $220,000 in cash and $160,000 in jewelry.
Additionally, three Goyard pouches worth $6,000 and seven pairs of Louis Vuitton sneakers valued at $7,700 were stolen. These high-end Goyard pouches can cost up to $2,000 each.
Police sources revealed that a friend of the apartment’s resident had been staying there for about a month but wasn’t home at the time of the break-in.
It remains unclear how the burglar bypassed the building’s security, as the property is a 39-floor structure with doormen. Investigators are now reviewing security footage to identify the culprit.
Anjori Mitra, a lawyer living in the same building, expressed her disbelief that such a crime could occur in what she considers a secure environment. “It’s surprising because this is a safe building. There’s security and a team of doormen.
A lot of people live and work here,” the 34-year-old said. She added that she avoids walking alone at night in the area, preferring to use a car service for safety.
Another resident, Isaac Saidmehr, 62, shared his concerns about the increasing crime rate in the neighborhood. “It’s happening more and more,” he said. “It’s scary.
My wife comes home shaken up after hearing about these things.” Saidmehr emphasized the need for a greater police presence in the area, saying, “I want to see more cops on the streets.”
The incident has left residents of the high-rise building on edge, questioning the effectiveness of the building’s security measures. Police continue to investigate the case and urge anyone with information to come forward.
