Ex-Girlfriend Faces Murder Charges After Deadly Fire Traps Victims in Queens!
A woman in New York has been indicted after her involvement in a deadly fire that claimed two lives in Queens. The incident, which occurred early on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 2, shocked the community and revealed a tragic turn of events. The fire wasn’t the only horror — it was who was trapped inside the blaze that made it even worse.
The Queens District Attorney’s Office revealed that 43-year-old Aliya Fakhri was connected to the crime. Authorities explained that she arrived at a detached garage behind a two-story house on 91st Avenue, where her ex-boyfriend, 35-year-old Edward Jacobs, was staying. Fakhri allegedly yelled up to the second floor, “You’re all going to die today,” before setting the fire.
Shortly after the threat, a witness who was inside the house noticed the garage was on fire. The flames quickly spread toward the house. Another woman inside, 33-year-old Anastasia Ettienne, was alerted to the fire and ran downstairs to escape.
But she went back upstairs to get Jacobs, who was sleeping at the time. Tragically, the two were unable to escape, and the building was soon engulfed in flames. The fire left them trapped inside, and both of them died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
Edward Jacobs’ mother spoke to The New York Post, sharing her grief and insight into the situation. She explained that her son and Fakhri had broken up a year ago, but Fakhri hadn’t been able to accept the rejection. Jacobs had been trying to distance himself from her, but Fakhri allegedly wouldn’t leave him alone. Jacobs and Ettienne were close friends, not romantically involved, the mother added.
Jacobs leaves behind three young children — 11-year-old twin boys and a 9-year-old son. The loss has left their family heartbroken as they try to process the senseless tragedy.
Fakhri, who is the sister of Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been indicted on serious charges. She faces four counts of first-degree murder, four counts of second-degree murder, and one count each of first- and second-degree arson.
District Attorney Melinda Katz spoke about the horrific crime, emphasizing the malicious intent behind the fire that led to the deaths of both Jacobs and Ettienne. Katz offered condolences to the families of the victims and promised to pursue justice.
If Fakhri is convicted of first-degree murder, she could face a maximum sentence of life in prison. Her next court date is set for Dec. 9. She is currently being held at Rikers Island while awaiting trial.
