Man Arrested in Harlem for Selling 8 Guns to Undercover Officer!
A Harlem man was arrested after being accused of selling illegal firearms, including assault weapons, to an undercover officer over eight months this year.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed the details of the case on Tuesday, which involved 48-year-old Joseph Moore.
Moore has been charged with 24 counts of criminal sale of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon.
The indictment stems from a series of firearm sales allegedly made by Moore between April and October 2024. Authorities say these sales took place near his apartment building located close to West 135th Street and Broadway in Harlem.
Court documents reveal that on April 15, Moore sold two firearms, including a loaded gun and an assault weapon, to an undercover officer for $2,700.
This was followed by additional transactions on May 27 and October 2, where he sold two defaced firearms for $2,000 and four more firearms for over $3,700, respectively.
Moore’s arrest occurred on October 28, when police searched his apartment under a court-authorized warrant. During the search, officers discovered eight additional firearms, six of which were loaded. Among these weapons were two assault rifles.
Police also found an unloaded and unassembled wooden rifle along with a 3D printer capable of modifying firearms.
District Attorney Bragg commended the NYPD’s undercover work in preventing these dangerous weapons from being distributed on the streets of Manhattan.
“The guns Moore allegedly sold had a significant risk of causing harm to fellow Manhattanites,” Bragg stated. He emphasized his commitment to reducing gun violence in Manhattan through all available tools.
This case is part of broader efforts by the NYPD to combat illegal gun trafficking in New York City. According to Commissioner Tisch, over 5,850 illegal guns have been removed from the streets this year.
“This case highlights the ongoing proliferation of illegal firearms in many neighborhoods that still need our assistance,” Tisch noted.
The arrest of Moore serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in curbing gun violence. However, it also underscores the importance of proactive measures, such as undercover operations, to protect communities from the risks posed by illegal firearms.
