Man Sentenced to Prison for Gun Possession Related to Albany Woman’s Fatal Shooting!

A man has been sentenced to three to six years in prison for his involvement in a gun possession case connected to the death of an Albany woman.

The tragic incident happened last Christmas Day when Sky Lemmons-Dixon was shot in her apartment on State Street. She succumbed to her injuries a week later, on January 1.

Michael Varlack, the man charged, pleaded guilty in October to criminal possession of a weapon. Prosecutors have not disclosed his exact role in the shooting, leaving many questions about the case unanswered.

This tragic incident unfolded shortly after Lemmons-Dixon’s ex-boyfriend, Houston Ketter III, was handed a severe sentence of 50 years to life for his violent crimes against her and another woman.

Ketter’s abuse was particularly cruel; he was found guilty of heating a pot and burning Lemmons-Dixon with it before using it to break her arm.

Lemmons-Dixon had bravely provided testimony against Ketter to the grand jury. However, she did not appear at his trial, leaving a shadow over the proceedings.

Her untimely death adds another layer of sorrow to an already devastating case.

While Varlack’s sentencing addresses the gun possession charge, the circumstances of Lemmons-Dixon’s death highlight ongoing challenges in addressing domestic violence and gun-related crimes. The case has left a community mourning and searching for answers.
