Justice Served: 25-Year Sentence for Ballston Spa Neighbor’s Killer!

A 47-year-old man from Ballston Spa has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for a brutal attack that led to the death of his neighbor. The incident occurred in March 2022 when Pharrin Greene forcefully broke into the apartment of his downstairs neighbor, 67-year-old Bernard Rodgers. Greene struck Rodgers multiple times with a baseball bat, causing severe injuries.

The assault left Rodgers with critical head injuries, and he was unable to recover. Five months after the attack, Rodgers passed away, leaving his family devastated.

Following a two-week trial in September, Greene was found guilty of multiple charges. These included manslaughter, assault, two counts of burglary, and criminal mischief. The conviction was the result of a detailed investigation by the Ballston Spa Police Department in collaboration with the State Police.

During the sentencing, members of Bernard Rodgers’ family shared their grief through emotional victim impact statements. His daughter, Letika Rodgers, described her father as a proud U.S. Marine who had always been active and independent. She expressed sorrow over how the attack left him unable to walk, talk, eat, or perform basic tasks on his own.

Rodgers’ widow, Ruby Rodgers, struggled to understand why Greene committed such a violent act, taking away a man she described as kind and honorable.

Navree Woods-Turner, Rodgers’ niece, recounted how her uncle had supported her both emotionally and financially during challenging times, including after her home was destroyed in a fire. His stepdaughter, Ameka Bethea, shared how Rodgers had treated her like his own child, inspiring her to pursue higher education.

District Attorney Karen Heggen praised the swift actions of law enforcement, which were instrumental in securing Greene’s conviction. She commended the Ballston Spa Police Department and State Police for their thorough investigation.
