A missing motorcycle rider from Central California was discovered dead in Los Angeles County

Authorities in Los Angeles County stated on Wednesday that a motorcyclist who had been reported missing from Central California had been found dead close to the 5 Freeway.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarita station public information officer reports that on Tuesday at approximately 6:35 p.m., officials in Kern County contacted LASD regarding a “critical missing” biker.

Officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Newhall station were called to the intersection of Ridge Route Road and Shadow Lake Lane after more than 12 hours due to reports of a single-motorcycle traffic crash.

According to early reports, the cyclist crashed down a cliff while approaching the interstate on a canyon route. The Harley-Davidson motorbike rider was down an embankment when police arrived on the scene on Wednesday around 7:30 a.m.

The rider was declared deceased at the site by the L.A. County Fire Department. Rita Flasch was recognized by LASD and CHP as the rider.

According to law enforcement officials, search and rescue teams from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station collaborated with officials from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to get in touch with Flasch’s family and ping her cell phone.

As early as Wednesday afternoon, the scene was cleansed.

The cause of the crash is still unknown.
