Man accused of killing two brothers in a historic Los Angeles shooting

The deaths of two brothers, Sergio and Ricardo Rios, in the Exposition Park neighborhood earlier this month, left Los Angeles County reeling.

As the LAPD newsroom reported, the brothers were found suffering from gunshot wounds in a car on the 1100 block of Browning Boulevard after the police department was summoned to a violent scene on June 1. Ricardo, Sergio’s 19-year-old younger brother, passed away at a hospital after Sergio, 33, was declared dead at the scene.

Authorities in Los Angeles responded quickly, identifying and apprehending a suspect.

Marcos Navarro, 33, was taken into custody the next day and is currently being charged with two charges of murder, according to KTLA.

Before the shooting, the perpetrator and the victims may have argued, according to the cops.

After being seen escaping in a light-colored Toyota vehicle, Navarro’s purported actions have sparked debates about gun regulation and the procedures used to prevent weapons from falling into the wrong hands.

District Attorney George Gascón revealed the allegations against Navarro at a press conference. Gascón said, “We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the brothers’ loved ones who lost two members of their family to senseless gun violence,” stressing the significance of taking deliberate steps to avert future tragedies.

Ivan Robles, the cousin of the deceased men, had a similar view when he posed the poignant and unsettling question, “How many innocent men and women need to die before change happens in our gun laws?” during the news conference that CBS Los Angeles reported.
