Man Arrested in Deadly South Dallas Shooting Faces Murder and Drug Charges

Greenville police arrested Jermal Burrell, a 28-year-old man linked to the deadly shooting of Cameron Chavers, 25, in South Dallas. According to The Dallas Morning News, the incident on June 18 stemmed from an altercation that escalated, with Chavers being shot and eventually pronounced dead at the scene.

According to online jail records, Burrell is now facing a murder accusation and two drug-related crimes. It is unclear whether he has obtained legal assistance. The bail for the murder charge has been set at $1 million. According to a statement acquired by The Dallas Express, Burrell was detained on August 1st and is presently being held at Hunt County Jail.

Dallas police were called to the 3800 block of Wilder Street on the evening of the incident. The Dallas Fire-Rescue team rushed to the incident but was unable to save the victim.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the preliminary investigation by the Dallas Police Department revealed that the altercation between the victim and the suspect escalated before the fatal shot was fired.
