NORTHBOUND I-880 CLOSED TEMPORARILY Due to Car Fire From Shooting Incident in San Leandro
On Tuesday evening, three lanes of the northbound lanes of Interstate 880 were closed because of a car fire. After some time, the lanes were opened again.
Although the driver and passenger in the victim’s vehicle were not injured, the California Highway Patrol reported that the incident began with a shooting. Nevertheless, the gunshot resulted in a collision, which caused both parties to sustain serious injuries.
In its traffic log, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) noted that the vehicle had bullet holes.
At 7:49 p.m., the fire, which was sparked by the collision, was reported in San Leandro, just to the north of the off-ramp for Washington Avenue. There was a backup of traffic on the expressway, as seen by the cameras of Caltrans.
