FOUR KILLED IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CRASH After Six-minute Police Chase Ends in Tragedy

Four people were killed early Friday after a six-minute police pursuit ended in a two-vehicle crash in Southern California, according to authorities.

San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies began chasing a suspected inebriated motorist around 1:45 a.m. Friday after the car refused to pull over during a traffic stop and failed to yield. The motorist escaped the pursuing deputies and a sheriff’s helicopter for six minutes at high speeds.

Deputies then learned that the Hyundai had been reported stolen, and one of the deceased owned a loaded gun, according to a sheriff’s department news release.

The 2018 Hyundai collided with a 2010 Ford Mustang at a crossroads in Upland, a city more than 33 miles (53.11 kilometers) east of downtown Los Angeles, according to the sheriff’s department. The Hyundai then collided with a post, split into three halves, and caught fire.

The sheriff’s department reported that the five male occupants of the Hyundai were ejected from the vehicle. Four of them were pronounced dead on the scene, while a 13-year-old child was sent to the hospital. He’s expected to survive.

The Mustang’s occupants, a 35-year-old male and a 21-year-old woman, were transported to the hospital as a precaution. None of the occupants’ names were disclosed.

Other information was not readily accessible.
