Serious Injury: Florida Woman Accused of Hitting Son with Broomstick Over School Pants!

A Florida City mother, Shernice Gibbs, aged 42, was taken into custody on Tuesday after being accused of striking her son with a broomstick, leading to a severe injury on his wrist. The incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement over the boy’s pants being too large as he was preparing for school.

Gibbs, during an argument with her son, allegedly grabbed a broomstick and struck him on his left wrist. The blow resulted in a deep cut that caused significant bleeding. The police report described the injury as “bleeding profusely,” indicating the seriousness of the situation.

Emergency services, including a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue team, were promptly called to the scene. The injured boy was transported to Homestead Hospital for treatment. The extent of his injury was such that he was unable to provide a written statement to the authorities due to the pain and the condition of his wrist.

Gibbs, in her statement to the police, claimed that the argument began early in the morning as she was helping her children get ready for school. She alleged that her son became verbally abusive, using profanity, and then physically assaulted her by punching her multiple times in the face. Gibbs told the officers that the blows caused her face to swell.

The situation reportedly worsened when, according to Gibbs, her son wrapped his hands around her neck in an attempt to choke her. In self-defense, she said she scratched his face, which resulted in a minor abrasion. Following this, Gibbs admitted to striking her son with the broomstick.

The police, after observing the scene and collecting evidence, arrested Gibbs on charges of aggravated child abuse causing great bodily harm. The severity of the charges highlights the seriousness of the incident and the injury inflicted on her son.
