Big News for Domestic Violence Survivors: New York Grants $5 Million in Aid!
Governor Kathy Hochul has just announced a major investment of $5 million in grants to 65 organizations across New York State that help domestic violence survivors.
This funding is aimed at providing crucial support and promoting financial independence for those affected by domestic violence. The initiative called the Survivors Access Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Fund, was a key promise made by Governor Hochul in her 2024 State of the State address.
Governor Hochul has secured $35 million in state funding to enhance the resources of law enforcement and district attorneys. This money will improve their ability to prevent and prosecute domestic violence through survivor-focused and trauma-informed approaches.
Governor Hochul stressed the importance of supporting individuals impacted by domestic violence, noting that financial barriers often prevent survivors from achieving safety and stability.
With this funding, survivors can receive help with various needs such as education, job training, housing, legal assistance, utilities, transportation, and healthcare for themselves and their children.
The New York State Office of Victim Services (OVS) is a key player in providing aid to survivors through its network of support programs. They offer financial assistance for medical and counseling expenses, funeral costs, lost wages, and more.
