D.C. Man Sentenced to 15 Years for Shooting Woman in Violent Northeast Incident!

A D.C. man was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Friday for a shooting that took place in Northeast Washington, D.C., earlier this year. The case, handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, involves Scotland Alston, a 33-year-old resident of D.C., who was involved in a violent incident on February 28, 2024.

According to court records, the incident began with a heated argument between Alston and a woman in the 2000 block of Benning Road, Northeast.

During their argument, Alston pushed the woman, and she pushed him back. At some point, Alston drew a gun from his waistband and held it by his side.

As the argument continued, a bystander attempted to intervene and separate the two. Despite this effort, Alston and the woman continued to argue. Eventually, the woman sat down on a ledge. Alston initially left the area on a bicycle but soon returned to confront her again.

In a shocking turn of events, Alston fired several shots at the woman. She tried to escape but was hit seven times and collapsed. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she spent several months recovering from her severe injuries.

At the sentencing hearing, the judge highlighted the senseless brutality of Alston’s actions and the severe impact on the victim. In addition to the 15-year prison sentence, Alston was also ordered to serve five years of probation following his release.
