New York Food Safety Alert: 13 Major Recalls That Happened This August!
Have you noticed that food recalls seem to be happening more frequently these days? It feels like every week, there’s a new alert about some food product, building material, or automobile issue being pulled from shelves. A quick look at the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) website reveals that there were 26 recalls in August alone. That’s a lot, right?
One of the most recent recalls, announced on August 30, involved Asli Fine Foods. The company had to recall its 7-ounce Asli Cinnamon Powder due to a potential health risk: possible lead contamination. This product was sold in stores across Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, and Ohio.
Just the day before, on August 29, M&P Food Production from Brooklyn, New York, issued a recall for several products, including blintzes, pirozhki, and vareniki.
These items were pulled from shelves because they might contain undeclared allergens such as wheat, milk, and sesame, posing risks for those with allergies or sensitivities. The recalled products were sold in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland, and Florida.
Earlier in the month, on August 28, Terrafina Golden Raisins were recalled due to undeclared sulfites, an allergen that was not mentioned on the packaging. These raisins were distributed throughout New York State, and the recall was initially announced on August 26.
Walmart also made headlines with its August 27 recall of Great Value Apple Juice. The recall involved over 9,500 cases of 8-ounce juice bottles sold in six-packs. The juice, produced by Refresco Beverages US Incorporated of Tampa, Florida, was found to be contaminated and had been sold in several states, including New York and Pennsylvania.
Another significant recall came on August 23 from Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar Overseas LLC of Edison, New Jersey. They pulled their Bliss Tree Butter Snacks off shelves due to undeclared milk and sesame seeds, posing a risk for people with specific allergies. These snacks were distributed nationwide.
Several other food recalls in August caught the attention of New York residents. Products affected include Montreal Fudge, Jolly Rancher Popcycles, and Emerald Kettle Glazed Walnuts, all pulled from shelves for various safety concerns. El Servidor Corp recalled its ground cinnamon, and Perrigo Company had to recall its store-brand Premium Infant Formula with Iron Milk-Based Powder due to potential health risks.
Seafood was not spared either; North Fish USA Inc. recalled 9-ounce packages of Cold Smoked Capelin, while Yummy Foods had to pull their Yummy Swirly Ices line from stores. Lastly, G.S. Gelato & Desserts recalled their Full Circle Market Coconutmilk Chocolate Almond Crunch Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert.
