New Hope: 3 Food Pantries Opening in Schenectady This Tuesday!

The Schenectady Municipal Housing Authority (SMHA) announced the grand opening of three permanent food pantries on Tuesday. These pantries will be located in Lincoln Heights, Schonowee Village, and Ten Eyck Apartments and will provide essential food services to residents in these areas.

This initiative was made possible through a generous $51,000 grant from The Schenectady Foundation. The grant was used to equip the pantries with the necessary appliances to safely store food and other essential equipment to ensure smooth operation. The food pantries aim to serve over 200 tenants by offering easy access to food and other community services.

One key feature of these pantries is the provision of after-hours emergency food access. This is particularly important for residents who may need help outside regular pantry hours. Additionally, the pantries will offer personalized, one-on-one access to community services, helping residents with more than just food. They will also provide information and support on various community resources.

The food pantries will follow a weekly schedule, allowing residents to pick up food based on their convenience. This flexible arrangement ensures that everyone has access to essential groceries when they need them. The Regional Food Bank will be supplying a wide variety of food, catering to different dietary needs. This partnership ensures that the pantries can provide residents with diverse and nutritious food options.
