Shocking Twist: NYC Woman Claims Boyfriend’s Fatal Cabinet Stumble Was Accidental!

A Bronx woman is facing serious charges after allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death during a heated argument. The woman, identified as 31-year-old Karlene Payne, initially tried to convince authorities that her boyfriend, Joshua Johnson, 36, had died in an accident after drunkenly stumbling into a kitchen cabinet. However, prosecutors claim the truth is far more chilling.

The incident took place early Sunday morning at the couple’s apartment on Lincoln Avenue near Bruckner Boulevard in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx. According to the police, the altercation began around 4:15 a.m. after the couple had spent the evening with friends. Once their friends left, tensions between Payne and Johnson escalated, resulting in the tragic event.

As the argument intensified, Payne allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed Johnson in the leg. The prosecutor, Assistant District Attorney Zaid Abdullah, revealed that Payne didn’t stop there. After stabbing Johnson, she reportedly pulled the knife out, causing the wound to bleed heavily.

Despite having a background in the medical field, which would have likely informed her of the dangers of removing the knife, Payne did so anyway, worsening the injury and leading to excessive blood loss.

After the stabbing, Payne quickly called 911 but lied about what had happened. On the call, she claimed that her boyfriend had been drinking and had accidentally fallen into a kitchen cabinet, causing the fatal injury. While she was still on the phone with emergency dispatchers, Payne is said to have hidden the murder weapon in the dishwasher.

When first responders arrived, Johnson was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. It wasn’t until hours later, under further questioning, that Payne admitted to her role in the incident. She reportedly confessed that she had lied to authorities because she feared they would both get in trouble.

Payne has since been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. During her arraignment on Monday, Abdullah detailed how her actions directly led to Johnson’s death. He emphasized that her initial dishonesty and attempt to cover up the crime only added to the severity of the situation.

Judge Eugene Bowen granted the prosecution’s request to hold Payne without bail, considering the gravity of the charges. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, where more details about the case may emerge.
