Providence Man Indicted for Head-On Freetown Crash: Facing Serious Charges!
A 26-year-old man from Providence has been formally indicted and arraigned following a detailed investigation into a serious head-on car crash that occurred on April 20, 2024, in Freetown, Massachusetts.
The Freetown Police Department has confirmed that Anthony Flores is facing multiple charges related to the accident, which took place on South Main Street in the Assonet area.
The accident happened just before 5:45 p.m. near the Stop & Shop Distribution Center. Witnesses quickly contacted 9-1-1, reporting a severe two-car collision. When emergency responders arrived at the scene, they found two heavily damaged vehicles that had collided head-on.
Flores was driving a 2015 Acura TLX sedan, while the other vehicle was a 1972 Plymouth Roadrunner driven by a 68-year-old man. Both drivers were seriously injured and had to be transported to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford for treatment.
Flores was trapped inside his Acura, and emergency responders had to use the “jaws of life” to extricate him from the wreckage. His injuries, while serious, were not life-threatening.
The driver of the Plymouth Roadrunner, however, suffered critical injuries, including multiple fractures and internal trauma. As of the most recent reports, he continues to face a difficult and extended recovery.
After conducting an investigation, police believe that Flores’ car crossed the center line at a high speed, causing the collision with the Plymouth Roadrunner. As a result of this investigation, Flores has been indicted by a grand jury on several charges.
These charges include Operating Under the Influence (OUI), Causing Serious Bodily Injury, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon.
The investigation was led by several members of the Freetown Police Department, including Patrolman Ryan W. Pereira, Patrolman Kory J. Kubik, and Sergeant Thomas E. Ashley, Jr.
Detective Shane V. Kelley and Sergeant Nicholas J. Drinkwine, who specializes in accident reconstruction, also played significant roles in the investigation.
The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office provided additional support in bringing the case to the point of indictment.
Freetown Police Chief Scott M. Rose praised the hard work of the officers involved, stating that their quick response and thorough investigative work were key factors in moving the case forward.
He also thanked the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office for their collaboration in this matter.
Chief Rose emphasized the seriousness of the case, using it as a reminder of the dangers associated with impaired and reckless driving.
“This case serves as a reminder that every time we get behind the wheel, we are making decisions that can have life-changing consequences, not only for ourselves but for others on the road,” he said.
“We urge everyone to drive responsibly and help prevent tragedies like this from happening in our community.”
As the case proceeds through the legal system, Flores is expected to face trial for the charges brought against him. If convicted, he could face significant legal penalties, including imprisonment.
