Shocking Scam: Unlicensed Nurse Faces Multiple Charges at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home!

A 45-year-old woman from Temple Hills has been accused of stealing drugs and falsely claiming to be a registered nurse at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office has identified her as Stephanie Marie Murphy.

The charges stem from an incident in March when Murphy allegedly took drugs from the veterans’ home.

According to Detective Andrew Burgess from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, an internal investigation was started in August after the home suspected a nurse of taking medication on March 17.

Security footage reportedly shows Murphy holding three blister packs of medication at the start of her shift but only having two at the end of her shift the next morning, on March 18. The missing drugs were valued at $21, based on court records.

Murphy’s problems didn’t start there. Her nursing license had already been suspended due to earlier accusations of drug misuse and theft, according to Detective Burgess.

The investigation into Murphy’s actions at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home involved several law enforcement agencies.

These included the Maryland State Police, Prince George’s County Police Department, Southern Maryland Intelligence Center, and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

As authorities dug deeper, they discovered that Murphy had allegedly lied about her identity while using an online platform that helps with staffing at the veterans’ home.

A warrant for her arrest was issued on September 9. She now faces 25 charges of lying about being a registered nurse and 27 charges of practicing as a registered nurse without proper credentials.
