Shocking Allegations: Latham Woman Steals Over $50K

A Latham woman has been arrested on allegations of stealing more than $50,000 over several months.

The arrest was announced by the State Police, who stated that Jessica Rowell, 49, is facing charges of second-degree grand larceny.

According to the police, the incident took place between the summer of 2023 and the spring of 2024. Rowell was employed to manage several short-term rental properties located in Schenectady.

During her time in this role, it is alleged that she misappropriated rental income that should have gone to the property owner, instead pocketing over $50,000 for herself.

The police report indicates that they first received a complaint about the missing funds on September 26. Following a detailed investigation, authorities uncovered evidence suggesting that Rowell had diverted rental payments meant for the property owners.

After gathering enough information, the police arrested Rowell on Saturday. She was subsequently placed in Schenectady County Jail, where she is awaiting her arraignment.

The authorities have not yet disclosed whether additional charges will be filed or if other individuals might be involved in this incident.

Grand larceny, the charge Rowell is facing, is a serious offense in New York State, especially at the second-degree level.

This charge applies when the value of stolen property exceeds $50,000 but is less than $1 million. If convicted, Rowell could face significant legal consequences, including a lengthy prison sentence and substantial fines.

The property owner has not made any public statements regarding the theft. It remains unclear how the alleged embezzlement was discovered or whether any measures will be taken to recover the stolen funds.

The police have urged anyone with additional information related to this case to come forward and assist with the investigation.

Authorities continue to investigate the details to determine whether there were any gaps in oversight or additional violations that may have occurred during Rowell’s tenure as the property manager.
