Fatal Plane Crash in Georgia: Pilot Killed, Passenger Injured in Savannah Residential Area!
A small plane crash in Savannah, Georgia, resulted in the death of the pilot and injuries to a passenger late Sunday night.
The plane went down in a residential neighborhood near East 66th Street, just three miles from the city’s historic district. The Savannah Police Department confirmed the tragic incident occurred around 10 p.m.
The pilot was confirmed dead at the scene, and the passenger suffered only minor injuries, according to a statement from the police. Fortunately, no one on the ground was harmed during the crash.
Savannah firefighters were quick to respond to the emergency. According to a statement by the Savannah Professional Firefighters Association, they were called to the area of Habersham Street and East 66th Street at 9:46 p.m. Firefighters responded with a full technical rescue team due to concerns about possible injuries and entrapments.
Upon arriving, the first unit confirmed the plane crash and identified two individuals trapped inside the aircraft.
The firefighters worked swiftly to free the pilot and passenger from the wreckage. While the pilot did not survive, the passenger was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The scene remains active, and the area around the crash site has been closed off to allow for a thorough investigation and the removal of the downed aircraft.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are expected to investigate further and determine the cause of the crash.
Emergency personnel will continue their work in the coming hours as investigators begin to piece together the details of the crash.
