Dog Trick-or-Treating in Downtown Albany: Don’t Miss the Hounds of Halloween on October 19!

The much-anticipated Hounds of Halloween event is set to return to downtown Albany on Saturday, October 19, bringing joy to both dog lovers and their furry companions.

This unique dog trick-or-treating and costume contest will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and more than 20 local businesses will participate, making it an exciting day for everyone involved.

To join in the fun, participants must purchase tickets for their dogs on the downtown Albany website.

Tickets for those who prefer to buy them on the day of the event will be available at the Quackenbush Square courtyard, right next to the Olde English Pub and Pantry. However, there will be an additional $5 charge for same-day purchases.

A portion of the event’s proceeds will be donated to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, so it’s not only a fun day out but also a chance to give back to a worthy cause.

Every registered dog and their human companion will be automatically entered into the much-loved costume contest.

Each participant will receive an official event map detailing the businesses involved, as well as a Hounds of Halloween tote bag to carry all the treats and goodies.

The first 250 guests to register will also receive a special downtown dog treat courtesy of The Doggy Bag, making the event extra sweet for those early birds.

The Canine Costume Contest will feature first-, second-, and third-place winners chosen by public voting.

The voting will take place in a photo album posted to the official Facebook event and the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District’s Facebook page.

In addition, a panel of judges will select the winners of the prestigious Judge’s Choice awards, adding an extra layer of excitement to the competition.

The costume contest prizes include downtown Albany gift cards, free tickets to next year’s event, and the ultimate honor of being featured in the artwork for the 2024 Hounds of Halloween.

It’s a great opportunity for participants to show off their creativity and for their pets to become local celebrities!
