Shocking Accident: Mother Reveals Son Was Struck by Car Near School!

A mother is seeking answers after her 15-year-old son was involved in a hit-and-run accident while walking to school.

Mellody Ruiz says the incident happened on September 30th when her son, a sophomore at Schenectady High School, was crossing the street at the intersection of The Plaza and McClellan Street.

She says a car turned into the crosswalk, hit him, and then drove off without stopping.

Mellody explained that her son managed to make it into the school and reported the accident to the nurse’s office. However, she is frustrated because, according to her, no ambulance was called.

She mentioned that her son had to use crutches for a few days and has since visited orthopedic doctors for check-ups. This incident has affected his participation in school activities, including wrestling and Junior ROTC.

She also said that her son could only remember a partial description of the vehicle, making it difficult for authorities to take action.

Despite this, Mellody wants to make sure something is done to prevent similar incidents in the future.

She recalled her son texting her when he reached the nurse’s office, saying, “Hey Ma, I got hit by a car.” Initially, she thought he was joking.

However, when she called him, he assured her that he was serious and that a police officer was taking a report. She stated that the nurse then took the phone from her son to inform her about the situation.

Mellody expressed her frustration about not being contacted earlier and questioned why an ambulance wasn’t called. She said the nurse explained that the accident didn’t happen on school grounds, so they didn’t feel the need to call an ambulance.
