Fraud Scandal: Scotland Contractor Accused of Ripping Off Clients and Subcontractors!

Prosecutors have provided new details regarding John Weigel, a contractor based in New Scotland who is accused of failing to complete renovation projects for multiple clients.

Weigel, 53, is alleged to have taken payments from three customers—two in Guilderland and one in Colonie—without finishing the contracted work.

One of Guilderland’s clients, Dr. Jose David, reportedly hired Weigel to renovate two floors at his practice on Alton Road.

Despite receiving payment, Weigel did not complete the work, leaving Dr. David’s project unfinished. This case was previously covered by NewsChannel 13.

The second Guilderland client resides near Arden Craig Drive. Prosecutors state that Weigel also failed to complete the renovation project for this customer.

Similarly, in Colonie, a job at a residence on Kasper Drive was left incomplete.

According to the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, Weigel collected over $3,000 from each victim before abandoning the projects.

In addition to failing to fulfill his contractual obligations, he is accused of not paying the subcontractors he hired for these jobs.

Weigel has been charged with three counts of grand theft and one count of scheme to defraud. During his appearance in Albany County Court on Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty to all charges.
