Tragedy News: Mother and One-Year-Old Daughter Die in House Fire While on Vacation!
A small community is grieving after a tragic fire took the lives of a preschool teacher and her one-year-old daughter while they were on a family vacation.
The fire broke out in their vacation rental home over the weekend, leaving a lasting impact on those who knew them.
On the night of October 13, at around 10:40 p.m., New York State Police were called to a home in Clinton, New York. A man was outside the home, informing authorities that his wife and two young children were still inside.
Firefighters rushed into the burning home and discovered Shannon Hubbard, age 35, along with her one-year-old daughter, Maggie, and her three-year-old son. Tragically, Shannon and Maggie did not survive the fire.
Shannon was a dedicated preschool teacher at Chatham Elementary School in Cape Cod, Massachusetts. The family had traveled to New York for a short vacation when the incident occurred.
Her husband, John Hubbard, who is a police officer in Dennis, Massachusetts, and their three-year-old son were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Thankfully, they are expected to recover.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing as the community mourns the devastating loss of Shannon and her daughter.
The Monomoy School District, where Shannon worked, expressed their deep sorrow in a public statement. Superintendent Scott Carpenter reached out to parents and the community, emphasizing the shock and pain this loss brings.
He assured parents that support teams and counselors would be available at the elementary schools to provide help for students, staff, and families during this difficult time.
He also mentioned that the district would keep the community informed about any plans the family may have for services or memorials.
John Hubbard’s police department in Dennis also released a heartfelt statement following the tragedy. Chief John Brady shared his condolences on behalf of the entire department, expressing their deep sympathy for John and his family.
The statement highlighted that Shannon and Maggie’s loss was a personal tragedy for John and the entire community. The department described Patrolman Hubbard as a dedicated officer and valued friend.
The officers and staff extended their support and sympathies to John and his loved ones as they navigated this challenging period.
To assist the surviving family members, the Greg Hill Foundation has set up a fundraiser. The community has shown overwhelming support, raising more than $67,500 for the family’s needs.
The foundation hopes to provide the Hubbards with some relief during this unimaginable time as they try to rebuild their lives.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances.
