New York Woman Arrested After Shocking Drunken Wrong-Way Thruway Crash

New York Woman Arrested After Shocking Drunken Wrong-Way Thruway Crash!

A New York woman has been arrested after allegedly driving while intoxicated and causing a dangerous wrong-way crash on the Thruway over the long weekend.

Despite increased patrols and efforts by state and local law enforcement to prevent impaired and distracted driving, it appears some drivers did not take the warnings seriously.

According to authorities, the 29-year-old woman from Glenville was driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 90, one of the busiest highways in the region.

This reckless action led to a serious crash that left both drivers critically injured and forced the highway to be closed for hours.

Police reports indicate that both the suspect and the other driver had to be rescued from their vehicles and rushed to the hospital, where they remain in critical but stable condition.

Although New York doesn’t have the highest rate of alcohol-related traffic fatalities compared to other states, the issue is still significant.

State Police have noted that alcohol is a factor in over 30% of fatal crashes in the state. This incident highlights the ongoing risks posed by impaired driving and the devastating consequences that can follow.

State Police were alerted to the crash on I-90 eastbound, just west of Exit 24, after receiving reports of a wrong-way driver.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found a two-car collision, and one of the vehicles matched the description of the wrong-way driver.

The investigation is still ongoing, and police say the charges the suspect faces could be updated as more information becomes available. For now, the woman has been charged with multiple offenses, including second-degree vehicular assault.
