Justice Served: Humble Man Sentenced to Life for Teen’s Tragic Death!
A 62-year-old man from Humble, Texas, was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday for the tragic murder of his girlfriend’s teenage daughter during an attempted sexual assault.
The man, Van Henry Brisbon, was found guilty of capital murder after killing 16-year-old Lauren Juma in 2022.
The incident occurred on April 29, 2022, when Lauren, a student at Nimitz High School, reached out to her mom, who was away on a work trip, through FaceTime.
She told her mother that Brisbon had been behaving strangely, raising alarm. Lauren’s mom immediately sent her older sister to the house to check on her.
When the sister arrived at the home, she found a terrifying situation: Brisbon was holding Lauren against her will and had a gun.
The situation escalated quickly, and soon after, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene. As they approached the house, gunshots were heard from inside.
Brisbon was arrested at the scene, and tragically, Lauren was found inside the home, shot and killed.
Authorities later discovered that Brisbon had attempted to sexually assault the young girl before the fatal shooting took place.
The crime sent shockwaves through the local community and devastated Lauren’s family.
After a trial this week, a Harris County jury convicted Brisbon of capital murder.
Due to the severity of his crime, he was automatically sentenced to life in prison. Under Texas law, this means he will never be eligible for parole.
“This defendant was a predator with a gun, and his choice to hurt a young girl and take her life was senseless and horrific,” said Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg in a statement.
She emphasized that the impact of Brisbon’s actions goes beyond the loss of a young life, as his crime has torn apart an entire family.
