Justice Served: Rochester Man Gets 30-Year Sentence for Attempted Murder of Wife!

A Rochester man, Doyle Rucker, 35, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the brutal stabbing of his estranged wife, Shaughnessy Denson, and her 14-year-old daughter.

The attack took place on February 3 at Denson’s home, where Rucker stabbed her approximately 20 times. In an attempt to protect her mother, Denson’s teenage daughter intervened and was also stabbed before both victims managed to escape.

Denson recounted her traumatic experience during an interview in March, revealing that she had undergone several hours of surgery to save her life, coming close to death on the operating table.

The severity of her injuries left her with long-lasting physical damage, including the removal of her spleen and the loss of half of her lung.

She also sustained severe injuries to her hand, with all the tendons and nerves cut during the attack. Despite these physical challenges, Denson has demonstrated immense resilience and continues to be there for her three children.

The courtroom was filled with supporters for Denson as Rucker was sentenced. Justice James Walsh, who presided over the case, condemned Rucker’s actions, labeling him a domestic abuser and calling the assault one of the most vicious he had ever seen where the victim did not die.

Walsh also praised Denson’s daughter for her bravery, acknowledging that if she hadn’t intervened, her mother might not have survived the attack.

Rucker faced multiple charges, including two counts of attempted murder and first- and second-degree assault. He ultimately pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder and one count of assault in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence.

Assistant District Attorney Patrick Gallagher spoke highly of Denson’s strength and determination, noting that while the physical and emotional effects of the attack will be lifelong, Denson remains committed to her role as a mother to her three children.

Despite the horrific events, Denson continues to defy the odds, not just surviving but thriving after the attack.

During the sentencing, Rucker expressed remorse for his actions, although the impact on Denson and her family remains profound.

In her victim impact statement, Denson highlighted the lasting effects of the assault, stating that the cuts on her body serve as a constant reminder of that horrific day.

However, she remains grateful that Rucker didn’t win and is determined to continue moving forward with her life.

Denson’s incredible strength and the support of her loved ones have been vital in her recovery process.
