Bay Area Tragedy: Man Found Dead in Dumpster, Son Under Investigation!
Hayward, CA — A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his father and discarding the body in a Union City dumpster, according to Hayward police.
The investigation into the alleged homicide began last Wednesday when concerned family members requested a welfare check after the 58-year-old victim failed to show up for work and didn’t answer phone calls.
Officers arrived at the victim’s residence on the 2000 block of American Avenue, but no one responded to their knock. A records check revealed that David Sanchez, the victim’s 25-year-old son, was associated with the address and was on probation with a search clause.
This allowed officers to enter the home without a search warrant. Inside, they found evidence suggesting a homicide had occurred.
On the following day, Oakland police contacted their counterparts in Hayward, informing them that Sanchez had been taken into custody for an unrelated matter.
During his arrest in Oakland, Sanchez allegedly made statements that led officers to fear for his father’s safety. This prompted Hayward detectives to interview Sanchez, during which he reportedly confessed that his father’s body had been placed in a dumpster.
Acting on this information, police searched the 33000 block of Central Avenue in Union City, where they discovered the body of the victim.
While authorities have yet to publicly release the victim’s name, police confirmed that he was Sanchez’s father.
Sanchez is currently being held at Santa Rita Jail on a charge of first-degree murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday and is not eligible for bail. This marks the 13th homicide of the year in Hayward, police said.
The investigation is ongoing, and the Hayward Police Department is urging anyone with additional information to contact Detective Navas at 510-293-7176.
