Sheriff Warns After Four Separate Drunk Driving Arrests in Saratoga County!
Saratoga County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested four individuals over the past week in connection with separate incidents of alleged drunk driving that resulted in crashes.
In each case, the driver was found with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.18% or higher, which is more than double the legal limit of 0.08%, according to police reports.
John V. Bonnie III, 36, of Halfmoon, was arrested on October 19 following a crash in the town of Halfmoon. He faces multiple charges including driving while intoxicated (DWI), moving from one lane unsafely, failing to use a designated lane, and speeding.
A few days later, on October 25, Jason P. Gibbins, 51, was arrested after a crash in the village of Schuylerville. He has been charged with aggravated DWI and operating a vehicle with a BAC of 0.08% or greater, among other violations.
On October 26, two more individuals were arrested in separate incidents. Katelyn M. Curtis, 26, of Mechanicville, was charged with aggravated DWI and several other infractions after a crash in Halfmoon.
Similarly, Nicholas A. Fjellman, 39, of Middle Grove, was arrested after a crash in Greenfield and charged with aggravated DWI, failure to use a designated lane and related offenses.
In a statement, Sheriff Michael H. Zurlo emphasized the dangers of impaired driving. “There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while intoxicated or impaired by drugs,” Zurlo said.
“Every one of these arrests involved a motor vehicle crash, some of which resulted in injury. Please, please, take the time to plan for a sober driver or ride. Your life or someone else’s may depend on it.”
Authorities in Saratoga County continue to warn against the risks of drunk driving, especially as incidents like these often lead to serious injuries or fatalities. The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to seek alternative transportation if they have been drinking.
