65-Year-Old’s Ninth DWI Conviction Brings Life Sentence Risk in High-Profile Case!
A 65-year-old man from Schenectady, New York, is facing a possible life sentence after his ninth drunk driving conviction. Daniel Miller, the individual in question, was found guilty on October 31 after a jury trial that addressed a series of incidents from 2022 and 2023.
Miller’s long history of drunk driving offenses has repeatedly endangered others, with his most recent actions leading to serious consequences.
One of the incidents took place on October 22, 2022, when Miller crashed his truck into a diesel pump at Stewart’s Shops location on Mariaville Road in Rotterdam.
According to the Schenectady County District Attorney’s Office, Miller hit the pump, bought alcohol and cigarettes, and left the scene without notifying the store employees.
It was only after a clerk reviewed the store’s video footage that Miller was identified as the person responsible for the damage. At the time, Miller was not legally permitted to be on the road, as his driver’s license had already been revoked.
Another alarming event occurred on April 21, 2023. According to prosecutors, Miller was attempting to make a left turn into his driveway when he struck a motorcycle ridden by 30-year-old Andrew Beckham.
According to the source, To avoid a direct collision, Beckham quickly abandoned his bike, but Miller continued driving and ended up driving over Beckham’s chest.
Instead of stopping to assist Beckham or call emergency services, Miller went inside his home. Beckham suffered multiple broken and displaced ribs as a result of the incident.
In a separate encounter on July 13, 2023, Miller was again arrested on a drunk driving charge. At the time, he had consumed two large beers, known as “tall boys,” according to statements from the District Attorney’s Office.
Despite these repeated incidents, Miller denied being intoxicated at his trial, though he claimed to have several self-diagnosed medical issues.
The case has highlighted Miller’s extensive criminal record. District Attorney Robert Carney confirmed that these are Miller’s eighth and ninth drunk driving convictions.
In total, he has accumulated nine felony convictions, 36 misdemeanor convictions, and six prison sentences over the years. Carney described Miller as a danger to society, expressing concern over his repeated disregard for the law and the safety of others.
Miller’s sentencing is set for January 8, 2025. If the court designates him as a persistent felony offender, he could face a minimum of 15 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 25 years to life.
Given his extensive history of legal violations, the court’s decision could potentially result in a life sentence, aiming to protect the public from further incidents.
