LAS VEGAS — State prosecutors are raising serious allegations against suspended Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sergeant Kevin Menon, accusing him of dishonesty and misconduct.

Menon is currently facing charges in two separate criminal cases tied to alleged illegal arrest tactics on the Las Vegas Strip and the possession of child sex abuse material.

Prosecutors have labeled Menon an “(un)talented Mr. Ripley” and a “con,” suggesting that his character has been significantly misrepresented.

In recently filed court documents, prosecutors are pushing to increase Menon’s bail from $27,000 to a cash-only bond of $250,000, citing the discovery of over 300 images of child sex abuse material allegedly found in Menon’s possession while he was out on bail.

This material, they argue, further justifies the higher bail amount and points to the severity of the charges Menon is facing.

Prosecutors have also taken issue with Menon’s attempts to portray himself as a dedicated and accomplished member of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) in a character letter submitted to the court.

Menon cited his employment with LVMPD as a reason for leniency in his bail terms, overlooking, prosecutors argue, the fact that he is charged with crimes allegedly committed while in uniform.

The prosecutors’ filing also disputes several claims made in Menon’s character letter. Menon reportedly stated that he was the only recruit to teach a class at the LVMPD academy while still a trainee.

Prosecutors have acknowledged the existence of evidence supporting his participation in teaching a “Basic Life Trauma Support” class; however, they claim that this presentation was found on the same computer that allegedly contained child sex abuse material.

Moreover, Menon claimed academic ties to Harvard, stating that he attended both Harvard College and Harvard Medical School. Prosecutors have challenged this assertion, including an email from Harvard’s Office of General Counsel confirming that there are no records of Menon’s admission to either institution.

Additionally, authorities reportedly discovered a falsified transcript on Menon’s computer, allegedly showing grades from Harvard University.

This document, according to prosecutors, was a Word file, making it subject to editing, which allowed Menon to manipulate his reported grades.

Prosecutors expressed concern over this document’s potential for alteration, noting that Menon could adjust it to either inflate or deflate his academic performance as he saw fit.

The state’s filing has also indicated that two new charges of possession of child sex abuse material have been added to Menon’s record following recent discoveries.

Menon is due to appear in court again on November 6, where these matters are expected to be addressed.
