Trump’s Historic Win in Nevada: First Republican Victory in 20 Years!
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Donald Trump has made history by becoming the first Republican presidential candidate to win Nevada’s six electoral votes since 2004.
Although the Associated Press had not officially declared Trump the winner by Wednesday night, 8 News Now and its sister cable network, NewsNation, projected that he would win the state.
As of Wednesday, at 6 p.m., Trump was leading Vice President Kamala Harris by approximately 5 percentage points across Nevada.
According to the source, With around 90% of the expected votes counted, Trump had received over 680,000 votes, though he was trailing by a narrow margin in Clark County, which includes Las Vegas.
Harris performed less well in Nevada’s urban areas than previous Democrats who had won statewide elections.
On Wednesday, Harris conceded the race to Trump and assured a smooth transition of power. President Joe Biden extended an invitation to Trump to visit the White House, which Trump accepted.
The last time a Republican candidate won Nevada was in 2004 when former President George W. Bush took the state’s five electoral votes by about 3%.
In that election, Bush received 418,690 votes, while Democratic candidate John Kerry garnered 397,190 votes. Kerry later served as Secretary of State under President Barack Obama.
In 2008, Democrat Barack Obama won Nevada decisively, defeating Republican candidate John McCain by more than 12 percentage points and securing 533,736 votes.
Obama was re-elected in 2012, winning again over former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, this time by a smaller margin with nearly the same number of votes as in 2008: 531,373.
In the 2016 election, Trump lost to former First Lady Hillary Clinton, a Democrat, by about 2 points, with Clinton receiving 539,260 votes to Trump’s 512,058.
In 2020, Trump again lost Nevada, this time to President Joe Biden, who won by about 2 points, or approximately 33,000 votes.
