Double Homicide in Cypress Hills: Father and Daughter Killed, Boyfriend Arrested!
NEW YORK – A shocking tragedy has shaken the Cypress Hills neighbourhood in Brooklyn, New York. A woman made a horrifying discovery on Sunday afternoon when she found her close friends, 66-year-old Jacqueline Delyons and her 91-year-old father, Roosevelt Simmons, dead with their necks slashed in their home.
New York City police are now investigating this brutal double murder, which has left the community in grief and disbelief. The woman had gone to visit Delyons and Simmons at their home, only to find the two of them lying on the kitchen floor with slash wounds. Overcome with shock, she immediately called 911. According to police, they arrived on the scene and promptly began their investigation.
When the visitor found the bodies, Delyons’ boyfriend, 46-year-old Lewis Kerry, was also in the home. She reportedly asked him what had happened, and he allegedly responded, “You know what happened.” This statement, along with his presence at the crime scene, led police to take Kerry into custody for questioning.
On Monday, police formally arrested Kerry, charging him with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. The charges indicate the gravity of the crime, as first-degree murder carries severe legal consequences.
The arrest came as a surprise to neighbours who knew Kerry, describing him as generally well-mannered and quiet. “Shocking to me,” said neighbour Hubert Walcott.
“Doesn’t seem the kind of person that could do something like that.” Another friend of the family, Darryl Moorer, added, “I never heard the guy curse, none of that. The guy was good, but I don’t know what happened.”
The tragic deaths of Delyons and Simmons have sent waves of sorrow through their family, friends, and community. Loved ones remember the two as kind and generous people who were well-liked in the neighbourhood.
Ramon Berghout, Delyons’ ex-partner, expressed the deep sadness many are feeling: “Right now, we’re still trying to wrap our heads around all of this. Jackie was the mother to my son… Beautiful person.”
Neighbours described Delyons as “very friendly,” and it was clear that both she and her father, affectionately called “Bubba,” were deeply cherished.
“I’ve been on the block for over 45 years,” shared Darryl Moorer. “Bubba and Jackie are good people.” Bubba was known for his regular visits to the local barbershop, where he enjoyed the friendly neighbourhood environment.
The father and daughter had lived in the neighbourhood for many years. Neighbours reported that they had never observed any suspicious activity or problems at their home, making the tragedy even more unsettling for the community.
As the police investigation continues, the people of Cypress Hills and beyond are left mourning the loss of two beloved members of their community.
For now, questions remain about what led to this devastating event. Still, the hope is that justice will be served, providing some solace to those affected by the loss of Jacqueline Delyons and Roosevelt Simmons.
