Unthinkable Crime: Son Allegedly Kills Mother in Early Morning Incident!

The Santa Monica Police Department arrested Vernon Jeremiah Harris, 43, on Saturday, November 16, for allegedly stabbing and killing his mother in their shared apartment.

The incident took place in the early hours of the morning at an apartment located on the 1100 block of 12th Street. Officers responded to a distress call reporting an aggravated assault around 5:30 a.m.

Upon arrival, the officers were met by one of Harris’s brothers, who informed them that Harris had attacked their mother. Inside the apartment, authorities found an elderly woman with multiple stab wounds to her upper body.

Officers immediately provided emergency medical aid until paramedics from the Santa Monica Fire Department arrived. Unfortunately, despite efforts to save her, the victim succumbed to her injuries while being transported to a local hospital.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, Harris lived with his mother and two older brothers in the apartment. Harris reportedly does not have a criminal history but may have physical and developmental disabilities.

One of his brothers, who also serves as a caregiver for Harris and their mother, woke up to the sound of their mother calling for help. When he entered her bedroom, he found Harris standing over her with a knife.

The third brother, who was at work at the time of the incident, arrived during the investigation and provided additional statements to the police. Authorities executed a search warrant at the apartment and discovered the weapon used in the attack. Forensics experts processed the scene for evidence.

Harris was arrested and booked before being transported to the Los Angeles County Jail, where he awaits his first court appearance. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident, with statements from both of Harris’s brothers forming a key part of the case.
