51-Year-Old Suspect Arrested in Manhattan After Random Knife Attacks Kill Three People!
A 51-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly carrying out a random stabbing spree in Manhattan that left three people dead. Authorities identified the suspect as Ramon Rivera, who was charged on Monday with three counts of first-degree murder, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD).
The first victim, Angel Lata Landi, 36, was fatally stabbed in the abdomen near a construction site on West 19th Street around 8:22 a.m. on Monday. Landi was at work when the unprovoked attack occurred, police said.
According to the source, Approximately two hours later, a second victim, a 68-year-old man, was fatally stabbed multiple times on East 30th Street. His identity has not yet been released as authorities are notifying his family.
The third victim, a 36-year-old woman, was attacked at 10:55 a.m. near 42nd Street and First Avenue. She sustained multiple stab wounds to her chest and arm. Emergency responders rushed her to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, but she later died from her injuries.
Rivera, who was staying at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter on East 30th Street, appeared to target his victims at random, officials said. Police apprehended him near East 46th Street and First Avenue, recovering two bloody kitchen knives at the scene.
“He just walked up to them and began to attack them with the knives,” Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny said during a news conference.
Authorities revealed that Rivera has a history of eight prior arrests and is believed to be struggling with significant mental health challenges. Mayor Eric Adams questioned why the suspect was allowed to remain on the streets, given his apparent mental health issues.
“These random attacks left two innocent victims dead and another fighting for her life,” Kenny said. He confirmed that Rivera is the only suspect in custody and that police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attacks.
The incident has shocked the local community, with many residents expressing concern over the safety of public spaces.
