California Man Allegedly Smuggles Meth in Pajamas and Clothes Through LAX, DOJ Says!

A man from Northridge, California, is facing serious charges after allegedly trying to smuggle methamphetamine hidden in clothes, including a cow pajama onesie, at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced that 31-year-old Raj Matharu was indicted on Tuesday for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, drug traffickers are constantly finding new ways to move illegal substances. “In this case, the methods used show just how far dealers will go for profit,” Estrada said. “Every seizure like this prevents harm to our communities.”

Court documents say the incident happened on November 6 when Matharu checked two suitcases—a pink one and a gray one—at LAX for a flight to Sydney, Australia.

Security officers flagged the luggage during X-ray screening because of “irregularities” in the images.

Upon closer inspection, officers found several items of clothing coated in a white substance that had hardened.

A sample of the residue tested positive for methamphetamine. Authorities said the meth-laced clothing weighed approximately 71.5 pounds (32.4 kilograms).

Additionally, about 2.2 pounds (1 kilogram) of meth residue was recovered from the suitcases.

Before Matharu could board his flight, law enforcement officers arrested him at the airport.

The DOJ stated that Matharu was released on a $10,000 bond and is set to appear in court for arraignment on December 2 in downtown Los Angeles.

If convicted, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, with the possibility of life behind bars.
