Shocking CTA Blue Line Attack: 4 Sleeping Passengers Shot and Killed!
Four people were shot and killed early Monday morning on a Blue Line train in Forest Park, a suburb west of Chicago. The tragic incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. when police officers responded to a call at the Forest Park Blue Line station located at 711 Desplaines Ave.
Inside the train, they found four victims who had been shot. Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fourth was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where they later died.
Forest Park Deputy Police Chief Christopher Chin expressed the community’s shock and sadness, stating, “It’s a horrible situation; it’s definitely something that you don’t want to wake up to.
Everyone’s supposed to be enjoying their time off … it’s horrible.” The shooting took place while the train was moving, and all the victims were passengers. It remains unclear if there were any witnesses to the shooting, as no one reported it at the time.
Over the police radio, one officer described the scene: “We got multiple shell casings … several passengers appear to be deceased. … Appears to be three individuals unresponsive on the same rail car. … Don’t appear to be any witnesses. No one reported it.”
Forest Park Mayor Rory Hoskins described the incident as an “outlier” and emphasized the need for additional public safety resources. He urged leaders in Springfield to consider this when discussing any reorganization of CTA mass transit. Hoskins also shared that the victims were shot at point-blank range while they were sleeping on the train.
The Forest Park Police Department worked closely with CTA security to identify the suspect. Chicago police arrested a person matching the description provided by security on a Pink Line train.
A firearm was also recovered during the arrest. Authorities believe the suspect in custody was the only shooter, and they have categorized the event as an “isolated incident.”
CTA President Dorval R. Carter Jr. released a statement extending condolences to the families of the victims and condemned the act of violence. “Although this was an isolated incident, this heinous and egregious act of violence should never have occurred, nonetheless, on a public transit train,” the CTA said. They also confirmed that CTA resources, including security camera footage, were crucial in helping law enforcement with the investigation.

The identities, ages, and genders of the victims have not yet been released. Blue Line trains between Forest Park and Austin resumed service Monday night around 7:30 p.m. after being halted for much of the day as police conducted their investigation. The entrance to the Forest Park Blue Line station was blocked off by crime scene tape, with investigators and media present on the scene.
