Funeral Services Set for Second National Guard Member Killed in Helicopter Crash

The New York National Guard community is once again faced with the somber task of bidding farewell to one of its own. Chief Warrant Officer John Grassia III, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash in Texas, will be remembered and honored in a series of services next week.

Calling hours for Chief Warrant Officer Grassia have been announced, allowing friends, family, and fellow service members to pay their respects. These calling hours will take place on Monday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Saint John the Evangelist Church in Schenectady. It will be a time for those who knew him to gather, share memories, and offer condolences to his loved ones.

Following the calling hours, a Mass will be held the following day to honor Chief Warrant Officer Grassia’s life and service. This service will be followed by a burial at Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest with military honors. Chief Warrant Officer Grassia’s sacrifice will be remembered by the community as they come together to mourn his loss and honor his dedication to duty.

In addition to Chief Warrant Officer Grassia, the New York National Guard recently said goodbye to Chief Warrant Officer Casey Frankoski, who also perished in the same tragic helicopter crash near the U.S.-Mexico border.

Chief Warrant Officer Frankoski’s funeral was held on Friday, a solemn occasion marked by tributes and remembrances from friends, family, and fellow service members. Her legacy of bravery, dedication, and selflessness will endure, serving as an inspiration to all who knew her.
