18-Year-Old Arrested for Stolen Car Chase That Ends in Dramatic Crash!
Albany, NY — An 18-year-old Albany resident, Antonio Guynup, was arrested early Monday morning following a violent robbery that led to a police chase and a crash involving a stolen vehicle.
According to Albany police, officers responded to reports of a robbery on Washington Avenue around 2:00 AM. Upon arrival, they discovered that Guynup allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old woman, punching her multiple times before stealing her car.
The victim sustained injuries, including cuts to her eye and chin, and was subsequently transported to Albany Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Shortly after the robbery, police spotted the stolen vehicle near Myrtle Avenue. Guynup reportedly refused to comply with the officers’ attempts to pull him over.
In a desperate attempt to evade capture, he jumped out of the moving vehicle, which then crashed into an unoccupied car. Authorities apprehended Guynup nearby on Partridge Street without further incident.
The incident highlights growing concerns about violent crimes and auto theft in the Albany area. Police Chief Eric Hawkins emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing such issues. “We take these matters very seriously and will continue to work diligently to ensure the safety of our community,” Hawkins stated.
Guynup now faces multiple charges, including robbery, assault, and auto theft. He is expected to be arraigned later this week. Authorities have not released further details regarding his prior criminal history, if any.
The injured woman is currently recovering from her injuries, with hospital staff confirming she is in stable condition. Family members have expressed their relief that she is receiving the necessary medical attention.
As the investigation continues, police urge anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in combating street crime and the impact such violence has on victims and the broader community. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
