ALBANY, NY – On December 9, 2024, Richawn McClain, a 26-year-old man from Troy, New York, admitted in U.S. District Court that he was involved in drug trafficking and illegally possessing a firearm.

McClain pleaded guilty to possessing fentanyl and cocaine to distribute them, and for carrying a firearm during his illegal activities.

McClain faces a serious sentence when he is sentenced. The law mandates that he serve at least 10 years in prison, with a maximum of life behind bars.

In addition, McClain could be under supervised release for up to life and may face a fine of up to $1 million. His actual sentence will depend on how severe the crimes were and whether he has a criminal record.

According to U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman, McClain admitted to having a modified handgun that could shoot automatically.

This gun, which was a machine gun, was found with 32 grams of cocaine and more than 900 fake fentanyl pills, which McClain planned to sell.

The items were discovered together in a bag. Authorities also found $22,770 in cash, which McClain agreed to forfeit as part of his plea deal.

U.S. Attorney Freedman praised the efforts of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for their work in bringing McClain to justice.
