5-Year-Old Child’s Heroic Alert Brings Hope After Devastating House Fire!
Mechanicville, NY — A small act of courage by a young boy recently left an entire neighbourhood grateful and in awe. Five-year-old Bennett, who has autism, was celebrated as a hero after his quick thinking helped save his neighbours during a house fire.
The incident took place on Friday, October 25th, when Bennett noticed a fire breaking out at his neighbour’s home, the Gleeson family’s residence in Mechanicville.
Bennett immediately alerted his dad, who sprang into action. He rushed to the Gleesons’ door, alerting the family, and promptly called emergency services.
Thanks to Bennett’s awareness and his dad’s swift response, firefighters arrived quickly, potentially saving the lives of the Gleeson family members.
The local fire department wanted to honour Bennett’s bravery in a way that would resonate with the young hero.
The Fire Chief and members of the community, including the Bashfords and the Gleesons, gathered for a special moment where Bennett was given gifts to celebrate his courageous actions.
The fire chief presented him with a fire truck toy and a firefighter’s hat, allowing him to enjoy a small reward for his big-hearted act.
The fire, however, took a heavy toll on the Gleeson family. Their home was deemed a total loss, leaving them temporarily without a place to stay. Fortunately, the community rallied behind them, and the Gleesons have been able to find housing in a rental while they start the process of rebuilding.
A GoFundMe page was also set up to help the Gleeson family cover the costs of reconstructing their home and getting back on their feet.
This story of young Bennett’s bravery has touched many in the community and beyond, reminding us that heroism comes in all shapes, sizes, and ages.
By quickly spotting the danger and acting to alert others, Bennett has shown that even the smallest among us can make a lifesaving difference.
