A Self-Described Anti-Violence Activist Is Trying to Get Evidence in A Shooting Hearing Dismissed!

Dontie Mitchell, a self-proclaimed anti-violence activist, is currently facing legal challenges as he attempts to block certain evidence from being used in his upcoming trial for attempted murder.

Mitchell’s attorney, Rebecca Sokol, has raised concerns about the legitimacy of the evidence obtained, including Mitchell’s items like his cell phone and laptop. She also questions whether the arrest procedures were carried out correctly.

During a court hearing on Thursday afternoon, Sokol argued that the search warrant used to gather Mitchell’s items was flawed and should be invalidated.

She is pushing to suppress this evidence from the trial, arguing that it could unfairly influence the case against Mitchell. The judge overseeing the case has yet to decide on whether Sokol’s arguments will be accepted.

This case revolves around Mitchell’s alleged involvement in a shooting in Cohoes last summer, which resulted in the death of an individual. Initially charged with second-degree murder, Mitchell’s charge was later downgraded to attempted murder due to insufficient evidence to support the original charge.

As the legal proceedings continue, no trial date has been set yet. However, sources indicate that one may be determined soon, and the case is expected to move forward once the judge rules on the current challenges.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Mitchell is also facing a separate criminal charge related to a sexual offense that allegedly occurred in Albany in 2021. Details about this particular case remain limited as the investigation is still ongoing.
