An Albany man was arrested on Thursday during a weapon investigation, according to police. Jaidin Cruz, a 21-year-old, is now facing multiple felony charges due to his actions during the incident.

The events unfolded on October 3 around 7:30 p.m. when Albany Police officers attempted to stop and question a group of individuals walking near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Grand Street.

This was part of an ongoing investigation that had led the police to this location. However, as the detectives approached, the group quickly scattered, prompting police to pursue them on foot.

In a short chase, officers managed to catch up with Cruz from the group and took him into custody. During his arrest, Cruz was allegedly found in possession of a small quantity of heroin and a loaded handgun.

Detectives later confirmed that the firearm was reported stolen out of North Carolina, raising the severity of the situation.

Cruz now faces serious charges, including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.

However, they were released shortly after being issued an appearance ticket, which requires them to return to court at a later date.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about weapons and drug-related crimes in Albany. Law enforcement officials are working hard to tackle these issues and keep the community safe.

The swift actions taken by the Albany Police in this situation reflect their commitment to addressing crime and ensuring that individuals who violate the law are held accountable.
