Albany Man Arrested for Grand Theft Auto After Red Light Violation!
An Albany man was arrested early Monday after allegedly stealing a car from a nearby business and being stopped by police. Deputies say they stopped 47-year-old James R. Schmidt in Ravena shortly after 12:15 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11.
According to the source, Schmidt made an illegal turn through a red light, and the car he was driving did not have a license plate.
The investigation revealed that Schmidt had allegedly taken the car from a business parking lot located less than a mile from where he was stopped.
As a result, Schmidt is now facing several charges, including grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, and aggravated unlicensed operation. Following his arrest, Schmidt was held at the Albany County Jail, awaiting arraignment.
The Albany County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. Schmidt’s arrest underscores the importance of adherence to traffic laws, as his alleged actions and the resulting traffic stop ultimately led to his detention.
This case highlights how traffic violations can sometimes lead to the discovery of larger issues. Schmidt’s detention was primarily due to his illegal turn and the missing license plates on the car he was driving.
