An Albany man was taken into custody with 170 bags of fentanyl and crack cocaine, according to the sheriff
On allegations of felony narcotics possession, a guy from Albany is currently being held in custody pending his arraignment.
On Thursday, June 13, 2024, at approximately 12:37 p.m., Albany County Sheriff’s Deputies who were patrolling in the City of Albany in an effort to reduce crime conducted a traffic stop in the vicinity of Bradford Street and North Allen Street in the City of Albany.
This was done after they observed a traffic infraction in the area. Cornell B. Thorpe, who is 47 years old, was found to be in possession of approximately 31 grams of crack cocaine and 170 bags of fentanyl, both of which were intended for distribution based on the quantity and the fact that they were accompanied by dozens of plastic capsules, which are commonly used for the individual packaging of narcotics. The investigation revealed that the driver was in possession of these substances.
In addition to a traffic violation, Thorpe was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree, which is a class B felony, one count of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fourth degree, which is a class C felony, and one count of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, which is a class A misdemeanor.
It has been reported by Sheriff Craig D. Apple Jr. that Thorpe was taken to the Albany County Correctional Facility as a pre-arraign inmate. He is scheduled to be arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court on Friday.
