Breaking: Fatal Fire in Manhattan Apartment Leaves One Dead, Six Injured!
(NEW YORK) – A major fire broke out in a six-story apartment building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan on Monday evening, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to six firefighters.
The fire started at around 7:15 p.m. on 82nd Street, between York and East End Avenues. According to fire officials, the flames spread quickly across the fifth and sixth floors of the building and later extended to the fourth floor.
Firefighters from the FDNY arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke and intense flames. They used multiple hoses and had to break through walls to control the fire. The situation was severe enough to elevate the response to a three-alarm fire by 7:40 p.m.
A total of 138 FDNY and EMS personnel from 33 emergency units worked together to contain the blaze.
One civilian, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, was tragically found dead in the hallway on the fifth floor. Six firefighters sustained minor injuries while tackling the fire, facing tough conditions due to cold weather, smoke, and broken windows.
“It’s a dangerous job,” an FDNY spokesperson said. “Thankfully, all firefighter injuries appear to be minor.”
The fire caused heavy damage to the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors, along with water damage to other parts of the building.
Several apartments were affected, leaving many residents temporarily homeless. The FDNY arranged for an MTA bus to shelter displaced residents until further housing could be organized.
An investigation is underway by fire marshals to determine the cause of the fire.
