Breaking: Schenectady Woman Accused of Killing Baby Hires New Lawyer!
A Schenectady woman charged with the tragic death of her nearly 11-month-old daughter, Halo Branton, now has a new attorney to represent her.
The incident, which occurred earlier this year, has left the community in shock as details of the case continue to unfold.
The accused, Persia Nelson, made a brief appearance on Wednesday in Schenectady County Court. During the proceedings, it was revealed that Mark Sacco had been appointed as her new attorney.
According to the court clerk’s office, this change was necessary because Nelson’s previous attorney had a conflict of interest that prevented them from continuing with the case.
The heartbreaking incident dates back to March 10, when authorities discovered Nelson in a heated utility building on the General Electric (GE) campus in Schenectady.
When questioned by the police, Nelson claimed to have no recollection of how she ended up there and stated that she couldn’t find her baby. This statement led to a frantic and urgent search of the surrounding area.
After an exhaustive search, law enforcement officials located the infant, Halo Branton, in a utility access pipe. The baby was found in muddy water that reached up to her chest.
Tragically, an autopsy later revealed that the cause of Halo’s death was exposure and hypothermia. The details of the case suggest that the conditions inside the pipe were too severe for the young child to survive.
The prosecution has indicated that the case is now ready to proceed to trial. With the new attorney in place, the legal process is expected to move forward more swiftly.
Persia Nelson’s next court appearance has been scheduled for November 20 at 9:30 a.m. During this session, further legal steps and proceedings will be determined as both sides prepare their arguments.
The community continues to follow this case closely as it raises many questions about the events leading up to the child’s death.
The tragic nature of the incident has garnered attention not just from residents but also from advocates who are concerned about child safety and mental health issues that may have played a role in this devastating situation.
As the legal battle unfolds, the focus will be on understanding the circumstances that led to this heartbreaking loss of life.
