Brooklyn Subway Murder: ‘She Made Me Do It’—Suspect’s Shocking Claim

A 57-year-old suspect named Donald Haywood has been charged with the murder of Freddie Weston, 47, in what prosecutors have described as a tragic result of a love triangle gone wrong.

Haywood allegedly killed Weston because Weston had started living with Haywood’s estranged wife, a development that seems to have ignited the violence.

The incident took place on Sept. 4 at the Rockaway Ave. subway station for the C line in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

According to prosecutors, Haywood followed Weston for several blocks before confronting him in the subway station, where he allegedly shot him in the back of the head.

Surveillance footage revealed Haywood tailing Weston, then entering the subway station and later changing clothes outside.

When police presented Haywood with images from the surveillance footage, he acknowledged his resemblance to the suspect in the images, saying, “That looks like me. She made me do it. I’ll tell the rest to my attorney.”

Weston’s family members reacted with shock and horror upon hearing Haywood’s statement in the courtroom.

The emotional scene included audible gasps from his family as Haywood’s admission was read aloud. “Oh my God! I knew it,” one of Weston’s family members cried out.

Freddie Weston, a father of three, had recently relocated from Binghamton to Brooklyn, where he moved in with Haywood’s estranged wife in June.

Despite the apparent tensions this move may have caused, Weston’s sister, Lenice Weston, explained that her brother never mentioned any problems or confrontations with Haywood. She expressed disbelief, stating that he “made it seem like everything was OK.”

Derrick Weston, Freddie’s brother and an MTA train operator, passes through the Rockaway Ave. station daily. He is left with unanswered questions about the motive and circumstances surrounding his brother’s death.

Struggling to understand why this tragedy unfolded, he shared, “I’m just asking question after question after question.”

Meanwhile, Haywood’s lawyer, Douglas Appel, declined to comment on the allegations, stating only that his office was investigating the matter and needed more time before making a statement. Haywood, charged with murder, is currently being held without bail on Rikers Island.
