Caught Red-Handed: Albany Man’s Traffic Stop Ends in Drug Arrest!

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a 38-year-old Albany man, Alexander Lux-Maggio, after a routine traffic stop. Lux-Maggio now faces serious drug charges following the incident.

The arrest occurred on Wednesday around 2:40 p.m. when deputies pulled over a vehicle near Sherman Street and North Lake Avenue due to a traffic violation. During the stop, deputies discovered Lux-Maggio, who was a passenger in the vehicle, in possession of over 3.5 grams of methamphetamine.

In addition to the drugs, officers found a digital scale and plastic vials, items commonly associated with the packaging and sale of narcotics. As a result, Lux-Maggio was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia.

These charges highlight the severity of possessing and intending to distribute illegal substances, especially given the paraphernalia that indicated possible sales activities.

Following his arrest, Lux-Maggio was taken to the Albany County Correctional Facility. He is expected to be arraigned on Thursday, where he will face the consequences of his charges.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of such stops in curbing drug activity in the community, particularly when narcotics like methamphetamine are involved.

This incident underscores ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to tackle drug-related offenses in the Albany area, aiming to maintain safety and deter illegal drug distribution.

The presence of methamphetamine, a dangerous and highly addictive substance, is a growing concern in many communities, and making arrests like this is critical in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

Authorities continue to encourage the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help combat the spread of illegal drugs. The Sheriff’s Office noted that traffic stops are one of many tools used to identify and prevent drug-related crimes, ensuring that those involved in illegal activities are held accountable.
