D.C. Teen Pleads Guilty to Carjacking and Armed Robbery in Violent Crime Spree!
Montello Washington, an 18-year-old from Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to several serious crimes, including carjacking, armed robbery, and firearms offenses. The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
Washington admitted to his crimes on August 16, 2024, in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The plea was made before Judge Lynn Leibovitz, who has scheduled the sentencing for October 25, 2024. The carjacking charge comes with a mandatory minimum prison sentence of seven years, while the firearms offense carries a minimum of five years.
During the plea hearing, Washington confessed to a series of crimes that took place on August 16, 2023. The first incident occurred around 1:00 a.m., when a victim arrived home at an apartment complex located in the 5400 block of 9th Street NW.
The victim, who had just finished a work shift and arrived via Uber, was approached by Washington and another male. Washington, armed with a firearm equipped with a red laser sight, threatened the victim, demanding his belongings. The victim, fearing for his life, handed over his phone, wallet, and keys.
Later that same day, around 2:20 a.m., another individual fell victim to Washington’s crime spree. This incident took place in the 1300 block of Missouri Avenue NW. The victim had just parked his white BMW and was closing the driver’s side door when a red sedan pulled up beside him.
Washington, who was driving the red sedan, got out, brandished a firearm, and demanded the victim’s car keys and phone. The victim complied by handing over the car keys but refused to give up his phone. Washington then droves off in the victim’s BMW.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) has been actively investigating this case. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorneys Stephanie Dinan and Sabena Auyeung, representing the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
